DID YOU KNOW.....
Our family surname was spelled "FORQUET" before the family settled in Puerto Rico?
We have always heard that the first Fourquet to come to Puerto Rico were actually born, in Caracas Venezuela, about 520 miles south of Ponce. Juan Maria and Jose Maria Forquet y Pino, were born in Venezuela and came to PR as children, in the 1870s. Their parents, Juan Forquet y Fajan was from Spain, and Ana Carmen Pino was born in Caracas.
Every document I have come across, from Venezuela, spells the surname F O R Q U E T, and even in the oldest documents in PR.

This document is a U.S. "Declaration of Intention" from the Department of Labor Naturalization Service, where the older brother, Juan Maria, after living in Puerto Rico to adulthood, must declare he immigrated from Caracas, where he was born in the town of Valle Abajo, on July 28th 1868, and emigrated to PR in 1873 (with his brother Jose Maria).
At the age of 50, his physical appearance is noted as: "Color: white; completion: dark; 5ft 10; 140 lbs, brown hair and brown eyes." He is married to Natividad Alvarez, in Playa Ponce.
What is of note to me is his signature at the bottom of the document, where he signs Juan Maria "Forquet".
